Sunday Cross Stitch Update...

I have two pictures to post of what I have been working on. I had to basically restart Bushel & A Peck by La-D-Da when I realized I was one off on the lettering. I basically stitched all day today on it. I am stitching it on 36 count Abecedarean (spelling) blend by R & R.
The other picture is my progress on Bent Creek's Red Threads. I have finally got caught up and I would like to finish it up before school starts.

Irony

Hannah and I ate at the Japanese Teriyaki place in the mall for lunch today. All of the people working there were NOT Japanese. LOL!

Wacky, wild June weather!

Once again we have had some wild, wacky weather. We had 90 MPH straight line winds sweep through this afternoon. Currently 125,000 people are without power. Two people died when a tree fell on their car and a third person (same car) had both her legs broken. The rain and wind were just unbelievable. We had just planted trees in our backyard. Two of them were pretty big and the rest were just smaller trees. When the winds came through, the trees were swept over until they were almost flat with the ground. We watched as the tree was pulled up by the roots! I have never actually seen it happen! The winds were just wild, sirens were going off, rain was pounding...I thought we were going to be swept away. Several houses lost their roofs, trees are down everywhere, the Arts Festival was demolished, the Quest center where they are holding Olympic swim trials had damage. We were really lucky that it was just our tree. We have power (underground cables) and were able to get the tree back into the ground. We will call the nursery tomorrow to see what they say. It is bent now but we are hoping it will go back to being straight. I hope July brings an end to all of this weather drama...

S.E.X. ~ Off the wagon! Opps...

I was doing really well with my challenge not to buy and then:
  • LK Christmas double flips announced - I signed up for the auto, fabric and thread.
  • I fell in love with the bent creek seasonal row and buttons. I needed GAST and WDW and it seems silly to pay postage on thread.
  • Bent creek came out with the snapperbets. I love alphabets. I signed up for the auto and linen.
  • I joined a RR and needed an alphabet. My mom loves birdhouses. I am making it for her so I ordered a birdhouse alphabet.
  • I also ordered LHN's Little House Neighborhood.

The bent creek seasonal row and the LHN'S Little House Neighborhood are on backorder! Which is good cause then they come in July and DH does not realize how bad I have been in June:)

In July I want to order LHN's Yesteryear. Maybe that will be on backorder and I will get it in August:)

No stitching Thursday!

Today I woke up in a panic! I realized June is almost gone. What have I accomplished in regards to school? NOTHING I realized. I have not done one thing to make July an easier month. I am going on a trip with my parents and won't return until the day before my first inservice (flight arrives at 11 PM on the 11th). So today I ordered the team plan books, b-day pencils, special notes, and plastic pages. I also went to school and spent 4 hours unpacking. Boy do I have a lot of "stuff". I was a rebel and took back my extra half of a cupboard from the RF lady. She does not get a whole cabinet in my room this year. I am tired of always giving in and I really need the storage. I do not want my textbooks out in the open where anyone can grab them. This is how I lose books. I also want my new room to look neat and organized ~ not total chaos which is how I think it looked last year because I had everyone's junk in there and only 1 cabinet that I could use. My new room is bigger and I am utilizing all the space I can. The RF lady got a HUGE closet built for her. She doesn't need a whole closet in my room, or anyone elses either. I am telling my partners to take back their closets too. Enough ranting.

I also began working on the daily schedules. Before my principal left for Africa, he sent out the specials schedule for next year. I am now team leader for 4th and 5th grade (agh...). So I need to get my ducks in a row. I need to plan and organize before I walk back in the doors on August 12. There are approx. 13 new teachers in my school this year. I am supposed to be a mentor. I need to have myself pulled together so I can be a role model. How scary! I am now one of the teachers with the most experience. I remember when I was the youngest. Now they are looking at me for guidance and words of wisdom. Aiyiyi...

So I did not stitch one stich today...though I did order LHN Little House Neighborhood (which is already on backorder) and a birdhouse alphabet for my next RR. The internet makes it to easy to have S.E.X.

My parents got back from their trip. They stopped in at this cross stitch store in Cheyenne, WY. My dad has promised we will stop their on our trip out west! I am already salavating over it. I can hardly wait! Still don't have a date for when we are going to leave.

Early morning observation...

This morning I took the dogs out at 6:20 AM. It was one of those foggy days where the moisture was heavy in the air. As I walk down the deck, I notice "cotton" on the grass. Well the cotton turned out to be spider webs. Lots of them. I look under the deck at the rock and there must of been 50+ of the same webs. I look up the deck and more. I am surrounded by spiders. I HATE spiders. I don't kill them because they are good for the insect population, but I don't want them in my house or in my daily path. Aghh...I have a moat of spiders!

Back to normal...

Whatever that means:) I am feeling better. I crashed at about 9 pm last night, got up at 1 AM with a severe headache and took some pills and back to bed for me. I slept until 9 AM. My stomach muscles were still very sore, but feeling normal now.

I cleaned a little today and then stitched the rest of the day on either the red threads or CdC ~ I kept alternating between the two. Though I think I spent the most time on the red threads. I was going to go to the grocery store after picking Hannah up from art class, but it was raining so hard. It rained all day. The neighbors below us had a mini lake forming in their backyard at one point. It finally stopped raining about 6 PM.

Still haven't downloaded my pictures from the weekend. I need to do that before I get a "nasty" email from my SIL who lives in CO and couldn't be at the shower.

The Tale of the Grape Tomatoes!

Yesterday was the wedding shower for my husbands nephew's fiance. It went great! I made chocolate covered strawberries, mini oreo cheesecakes, ham and cheese pinwheels, mexican pinwheels, fruit, and a veggie tray with dip. I have pictures that I will post later.

On the veggie tray were grape tomatoes that I don't think anyone besides me ate. Boy we they smart. About 3:30 this morning I woke up with a horrible stomach-ache. At first I thought it was my kidneys again. I went to the bathroom and soon learned that it was something else. I think I got salmonella poisoning from the tomatoes. I was suffering from a severe headache, nauseousness, cramping, fever and severe diaherria. Finally about 2 hours ago, I could quit rushing to the bathroom. My husband says I look like death. I called my GP and he said if the symptoms weren't gone by tomorrow AM then I should come in. Thankfully they seem to be gone. I am just weak and shaky. I laid on the couch all day. Thankfully Dd is self-sufficient and she took care of her, me and the dogs today. I threw out the rest of the tomatoes and the unopened package too. I don't want to take anymore chances. Dh went and got tomato soup from Panera for dinner. I don't think I'm ready to eat tomatoes yet so I had a nice bowl of chicken noodle soup.

Procrastination is my real name...

Instead of working on things for the wedding shower tomorrow, I am surfing the net. Nothing like putting everything off till the last minute. I have mopped and dusted. I am saving the vaccuming till tomorrow. I need to go make the mini oreo cheesecakes and the dips. Everything else I will do tomorrow AM.

I ended up borrowing a car from my dad today. It's a 95 Grand Prix, and it drives like a tank. I will keep it until my car comes back. My mom and dad might be going to Wyoming so I might have it longer than I really need it. Dh took Dd swimming today and I went grocery shopping and picked up the last of the supplies I needed for the shower. I also got the prize bags ready for the games. The wedding colors are hot pink and orange so I am using those colors to decorate for the party. Tomorrow I will pick up the cake and get some fresh cut flowers. I shouldn't need anything else.

I stitched for about 3 hours last night on the squares for the Heart in Hand monthly markings. I really wanted something to stitch on something mindless. I don't think I will get to stitch again till tomorrow. Tonight I should be doing other things...like I said, procrastination is my real name.

Fanciful Friday!

I may break down and drive DH to work this afternoon so I can have his car. I need to go to Michael's. I did not have the floss I needed to work on my project last night. I own over 1500 skeins of floss so you would think I would have the colors I needed. But no, I did not! DD was laughing as I was going through all my boxes of floss. I must of looked like a crazy woman with floss flying everywhere as I searched. One color I could understand, but 4? There is just something wrong with that. I should probably go through and figure out what numbers I am missing and just buy them. Just in case...

I made a chocolate chip banana's 'n' cream bundt cake last night. DH ate it for breakfast and declared it delicious.

I got up this morning and went running with Sally. I am not seeing a decrease in weight, but I think I am shaping my body. Tomorrow I will go to the gym and work out on the treadmill and lift weights. They open at 8 AM and I will be there then.

I need to do some cleaning today for the shower on Sunday. It seems like I could dust everyday. I have killer dust bunnies living in my house.

I made this rice salad yesterday that my mom used to make when I was a kid and oh it was soo good. I think that is what I am eating today. I will make other things for DD and DH, but I think I will live on the rice salad - it has bacon, cucumbers, and green pepper in it. It's even better the second day.

No car Thursday!

No car today. Apparently there are several cars there that need to be worked on so they can't guarantee that I will get it back tomorrow. I am a little crabby about this since when DH talked with them they assured him I would have it back by the weekend. I have things to do to get ready for the shower. DH has to work at 4 so he needs his car. I will survive...

The dentist appointment went well. No cavities and my gums are looking great. Much improvement from the last time I went. They can tell that I am working on a healthier lifestyle.

No running with Sally today since we had to take my car in and I had to tutor. I went to my new classroom to grab some books. Boy do I have a lot of work to do before I leave. Next week Hannah has art class so I will go and work while she is at it. I need to order plan books for the team and work on our grade level handbook. Next week I will stop playing so much and focus a little bit on school.

Hannah and I ate at an Omaha favorite last night ~ Culvers. Boy was it delicious. Even though it has been around forever, we have never eaten there. I had won a GC at bunco and decided to go and try it. I don't know if it was because we just don't eat out anymore or if it truly was the most delicious food I have ever eaten, but Hannah and I were in heaven. We had cheeseburgers, onion rings and turtle ice cream cake. We ate it all! Blew my calories for the day in one sitting. LOL! I think it was worth it. I will do double time tomorrow and Saturday! I do plan to do some exercise this afternoon too.

Hump day and feeling it...

Today Sally and I were dragging. She got in the car and announced she had not slept well. I hadn't either. I woke up at 1:30 AM and couldn't go back to sleep, well until 5 AM. I woke up at 6:35 in a panic. I dragged my sorry self off the couch, Dh couldn't sleep because of all my tossing and turning, and put my running clothes on. We started off slow and managed to run the hill and dam in record time. My plantar fasicitus (spelling) is really bothering me this week. My heels ache and I have a weird feeling in my left foot. I should probably head back to the docs, but I shall put it off for a little while longer. No asthma issues today:) I am just achy from the exercise.

I have a dentist appointment this afternoon. I just so love the dentist (sarcasm). Then I am going to buy the decorations and things for the wedding shower I am hosting on Sunday. I also need to order the cake and get the prizes for the games. I might deal with the prizes tomorrow and Friday.

Tomorrow my car goes in to get fixed from the hail damage. Dh is working 4 - midnight this week so I will be carless tomorrow night. Hopefully my car will be ready Friday afternoon.

More stash temptations!

Bent Creek has another really cute pattern for a SAL. It's called Snappbet. I just love alphabets and this one promises to be adorable! I am so tempted to buy it! I wish I had better self-control! I really shouldn't...

Hurray for Tuesday!

I went walk/running with Sally again today. We shaved 3 minutes off our time and even stopped for coffee. My darn asthma is acting up a little. I started wheezing and coughing and feeling light-headed while we were running the hills. I guess I should carry my inhaler with me, but I really hate the way it makes me feel.

No plans for today at all other than stitching on two ABC rr. I would like to finish them tomorrow so I can mail them on Thursday when I go to tutor a kiddo in math. I am supposed to start tutoring another girl, but her mom hasn't called me back.

Today I need to eat much healthier. I did good until dinner last night and then I went bonkers. I want to go and buy a watermelon today and eat it...

Garage Sale Update and Such!

Dh and I had the garage sale Friday and Saturday. I dragged everything up from the basement Thursday night. He was shocked I did it by myself. I told him I just wanted to get it up and out of there. If we waited, we might never do it. Dh ended up working all day Thursday because of the tornadoes and other storm damage. They had teams all over NE and IA looking at all the damage. It looks like IA is going to float away. Almost the whole state seems to be under water. My friend has her parents staying with her since their house is now surrounded by water. Back to the basement, it looks so much better. There are still a couple of spots that I need to work on and organize, but the majority of the junk is gone. You can actually see the floor and sit on the couches to watch TV.

We got up at 6:30 Friday and Saturday to set up. We ended up making around $300 and hauled a bunch to Goodwill. Dh has one more trip and then we should be good. I am going to list a few items on craigslist since they are in really good condition and I think we can get more money for them on there. Dd has huge lots of bratz and accessories, barbies and accessories, polly pockets and accessories, and these designer dolls and accessories.

I went walking with Sally this morning. I hurt my ankle Saturday. I dropped my gazelle on my foot and ankle. Both are still slightly swollen and bruised. Thankfully I don't think I broke it.

I made a nacho bar yesterday for Father's day. My mom, dad, sisters and their families all came over. It was a big hit with all. My sister made these mini oreo cheesecake things. Oh were they delicious. I was soo bad and ate three:( In fact, I was a little bad all weekend. I think I am better when I am in school. I can't snack all day long. Today I am eating salad with leftover chicken taco meat and drinking LOTS of water. I am also not going to eat after 7 PM for the rest of the week.

I need to order some more specialty floss. I screwed up on my border and need to rip which means I will now run out of the floss. Since I am going to order, I will order a few other colors I need for a project I am kitting. I worked last week on my red threads. I did a little on CdC, but mostly focused on the red threads. I really want to finish them before the Oregon trip.

My friend's niece was approved for the lung transplant. Continue to keep Megan and her family in your prayers. They are going to really need it in the upcoming months.

I am hosting a bridal shower on Sunday and need to start planning that. From Wednesday on I will be cleaning and such. The wedding is in July. I am also hosting a party the night before the wedding for all the out of town family. It looks like there is going to be about 40 - 50 people. I need to start working on the menu for that. I think I am going to get a cater for the main part of the meal. I can do side salads and such no problem, but I really don't want to deal with the meat. I was thinking about getting bbq pork and brisket for that.

Well my lover (the library) just called and I now have 4 books ready for pickup. One of them I have been waiting on for quite a while so I think I am going to head on over and pick them up. Dd is going swimming with her frienemy at the JCC this afternoon and Dh heads back to work after his 12 day vacation. I am looking forward to a quiet house for a little while.

Prayers answered and other ramblings!

Tobin, my student, is home safe. He was in the structure that did not collapse. I was up most of the night fretting about him. I got an email this morning stating that he was fine. I am so relieved. When they announced that it was three 13 year olds and one 14 year old who died, I was so afraid it was him.

The lake was sooo flooded this morning. Sally and I saw lots of bunnies and their babies. I wonder if they are flooded out. We never see that many babies out and about. This is the highest I ever remember seeing Lake Z.

Dh and I lived in Waterloo, Iowa in the mid '90s and right now it is very flooded. The worst flooding in like 25 years. The forecast is for more rain! Soon we are going to need an ark.

Dh got called into work last night and is working today because of the severe weather threat and because a damage team needs to go out and assess the situation. He is supposed to be on vacation. I am not sure if we are going to do the garage sale tomorrow or not.

Night of the Twisters!

Tonight was night of the twisters (also the name of a kid's book written about tornadoes in NE). There were tornadoes all around us. My sister and I were driving to bunco when the sirens started going off. We got there and immediately headed to Paula's basement. We did take all the food with us though.

There was a boyscout camp it by a tornado ~ apparently it was leveled. Four boys were killed and 40 were injured. One of my students called to tell me that another one of my student's was at the camp. I don't know his condition. I teach across the hall from his mother. I am sitting here freaking out and saying prayers that he is in the group that was not hurt. They keep showing the footage of heavy equipment being taken into the camp. It is about an hour north of here. It was a leadership camp and my student was definitely a leader. He was president of my student council. I can't even imagine what his mother is going through!

The thunder is starting again...

New LK Christmas Double Flips!

I almost flipped:) when I saw the new LK Christmas double flips! I signed up for the automatic with the silverneedle. I LOVE that store. It's a good thing they are sooo far away!

Basment Pictures - Just for V!

Here are some basement pictures just for V! I took them this morning so it doesn't give the full impact of the disaster area, but it does show what I have pulled out and gotten ready to take to the garage for the sale. My friend Sally came to pick me up for our morning trek through the park and was amazed by what we did have in the garage. She said we would make a fortune! I was really sore from everything yesterday, but we still managed to walk/run the lake.

Basement - Day 1

Today Dh and I finally ventured into the basement. We spent 8 hours down there sorting, stacking, tossing, moving, etc. We can now see the floor. We have decided to have a garage sale on Friday and Saturday. Everything that leaves the basement will NOT be coming back into the basement. If it doesn't sale, it goes into the cars and will be delivered to Goodwill that afternoon.

I have finally accepted that we will not have any more children and now I just want to get rid of everything ~ 12 years of stuff. Oh my! Another example of how we are packrats!

Dh did put some of the bigger things on craigslist since he has had great success at getting rid of things before.

Tomorrow we will do more of the same and continue to get ready for the garage sale!

**UPDATE**
We sold the patio chairs and DD's old bedroom set:) I told Dh I really don't care of we get lots of money for the stuff or not. I just want it gone so we don't have to deal with it anymore.

Prayers

Please pray for my friend's niece, Megan, who has CF. She begins an evaluation this week in St. Louis to see if she qualifies for a double lung transplant. This is a very emotional time for her family and they are all having a hard time coming to grips that they are at this point. She is 21 years old and has basically spent the last 4 years in the hospital.

Menu Plan Monday ~ June 9

This weeks menu will consist of:

  • eating leftovers from the weekend
  • grilled bbq chicken salad with sweet potato fries and fruit salad
  • bbq chicken quesadillas with mexican rice and leftovoer fruit salad
  • grilled steak with baked potatoes and salad
  • chicken stir fry with fried rice

Special treats:

  • Pumpkin bread - new recipe
  • strawberry shortcake

Tornado!

I woke up last night at about 2:30 AM to heavy rain pounding on the house. And then I heard the tornado sirens and weather radio going off. The news was abuzz with a tornado touching down in Millard. Then they started saying the streets. It was right next door to where Hannah's godmother lives. The new Walmart lost its roof and so did some other businesses.

I finally talked to her this afternoon and her house and family are fine. Very minor damage. All the real damage was on the next stree over.

She sent me some pictures, but I can't figure out how to upload them. Here is a slideshow from a local tv station.

I couldn't stop eating yesterday. I ate and ate and ate...then I ate some more. None of it was healthy.

Friday!

My pedicure was fantastic. My feet feel so good and clean. It's amazing what a great pedicure can do for a woman!

Sally just called ~ she was up all night sick and is too weak to walk. I'm trying to get myself motivated to go to the gym to walk on the treadmill and to lift weights. I am sorely lacking in motivation today. Still

I need to straighten up the living room and vaccumn. DD's friend is spending the night. I am supposed to go to my sister's purse party and to stamp technique club. I don't really want to do either.

I stitched on the Red Threads yesterday. I am just stitching the red thread that runs threw every design right now. I really like stitching the one color. I ordered the thread I needed last night. I am doing most of the designs in the DMC equivalent, but I am doing the border in the required colors ~ bark and cocoa.

My day and it is only 9 AM!

Today I picked Sally up and we got Starbucks before heading for the lake. We are over half way around. Usually we walk half and turn around. Today we walke all 3.5 miles of it. It was great. Tomorrow we are going to run half of it.

I came home and had to answer half a dozen "important" emails. I didn't manage to complete my list from yesterday. DH has decided to landscape the backyard after 5 years of doing nothing. We bought 6 trees and 2 mini lilac bushes. We put the bushes in yesterday. Now we have to wait for the utilities to be marked before we can do the other trees. Two of them are bigger and the nursery will put them in.

There were nasty storms last night with quarter size hail. The storm chasing bug was strong in DH last night so off he went. He came home with lots of HAIL DAMAGE to my car. I was very upset and just wanted to start screaming. Instead I went to the bedroom and calmed down. Hopefully it can be fixed.

I have decided I am going to get a pedicure today. I keep putting it off.

I finally found my Red Threads back last night. I have 4 to do before I will be caught up. I need to order some thread from 123 stitch though. If I use my secret stash money does it count against my not buying anything for the month?

I got a $10 off your purchase from Christopher Banks in my email. I also got one for free shipping from Eddie Bauer. And Anne Taylor Loft keeps sending me deals too. Everyone is conspiring against me to get me to buy. I think I am addicted to shopping. I get the shakes when I don't get to...I also feel cranky. I really want to go to Target and buy and I don't care what it is. I just want to buy. I will not give in...

My motto for today!

kitten
more cat pictures

Are you a doer?

I was reading a blog and the author was talking about how she used to be a "doer" and now she's not. I think that describes me. I used to do, do, do and lately I lack the motivation. I have started several big projects around my house this week and the only one that is finished is the kitchen - mainly because I have to cook and it is hard to cook when it is a disaster area.

I am now behind on starting the basement. DH is off for the next 12 days and we are going to do it together. I need to be the cheerleader to get this to happen, and I don't know if I can "DO" it. I would so much rather stitch and read and other mindless things. I keep coming up with other things to distract myself.

I will achieve my goals for today:
  • finish MB closet
  • finish MB
  • take all craft items to my crafty part of the basement

Today I will be a doer!

Yes.

What color is your car?
Red.

Do you like cats?
Yes, but I am highly allergic and I am not supposed to be around them:(

Have you ever been to Six Flags?
Yes, in Kentucky, Texas, and St. Louis

How did you get your worst scar?
I cut the tip of my finger off with a potato peeler and the ER doc had to cauterize it to get it to stop bleeding.

Plantar Fasciitis and early AM walk

Ughh...I have been diagnosed with Plantar Fasciitis. I have been told I need to wear my running shoes and not sandals. I need the arch supports and need to work on taking care of my feet. I had already unofficially diagnosed myself with this, but I had been avoiding going to see my GP because I really didn't want to have to make any changes in my daily routine. He gave me a few exercises to do to help with the stretching of the tendons. I also had 4 plantar warts frozen on my left foot. They had developed very quickly and I decided I would rather just go and have him take care of them rather than mess around with them. Plus it is cheaper to pay my copay than to go and buy the meds that don't work.

This morning I picked up my friend Sally and we walked around a lake. We did about 3 miles in 48 minutes. It was a good brisk walk/run and we were both sweating like pigs:). It felt great to be outside and not on the treadmill though I should probably go and lift weights. DH worked last night until midnight. Came home for about 2 hours and then got called back in due to severe thunderstorms. He came home around 6 AM. So I got up and met Sally at 7 AM. I had actually been up since about 2, but I just laid in bed.

Anniversary!

Fifteen years ago today, my DH and I were married in Hugo, Colorado. We had a very small, intimate wedding with just very close family and friends. Everyone had to travel at least 2 hours to be there - most traveled about 12! My DH had been working there for about 9 months and we decided that was where we wanted to get married at. I had been teaching on the Omaha Indian Reservation in Macy, NE and moved to Hugo 4 days before our wedding. Since then we have moved three more times and now we are back in NE. Last year we drove through Hugo to see our very first house together and to see the church. It was so surreal to return there. It hadn't really changed but our view of it had.

I need to see if I can find a picture of us from then and then show us now. I'm not sure we have anything stored on computers. Hmmm...

June Stitching Goals

1. Finish Nature's Beauty - I am so close it will be a finish in June!
2. Get caught up to June on the Red Threads SAL.
3. Get caught up with the LK SAL.
4. Continue to work on CDC.

Waiting, waiting, waiting...

I am waiting for something to come in the mail. I was hoping it would be here yesterday...so far nothing. Hopefully today will be the day! I will continue to stalk the mailman...

Sunday Goals

I am still working on Saturday's goals. I ended up needing to go to Kohl's and getting DD some more shorts. The ones that I had bought her about two weeks ago are now too small. Needless to say I was very frustrated with that. We also went to my mom's for dinner.

So new goals for today and tomorrow:
  • Finish organizing in kitchen - go through cabinets/drawers/pantry
  • Finish organizing in back bedroom - DH bought book shelf and now I NEED to make him put it together/clean out closet
  • Finish my closet - go through clothes/shoes/misc and get rid of things I won't/don't wear
  • Finish cleaning master bath - scrub floor/go through linen closet
  • Finish cleaning master bedroom - organize books/dust/clean out drawers/clean under bed

Basement organization will begin on Wednesday, June 4
